Atlantic Richfield will continue demolition at Butte Reduction Works (BRW) to support remediation of BRW and subsequent construction of the Silver Bow Creek Conservation Area. Construction crews will demolish segments of the slag wall immediately adjacent to Montana Street, the foundation of the former smelter stack, and the remainder of the furnace foundation. Demolition will begin in early February and is expected to conclude by late spring of 2025. Future waste excavation, stream reconstruction, capping, and installation of groundwater controls won’t be completed until remedial design plans are reviewed and approved by EPA, in consultation with DEQ.
